Mandarin Oriental: a five-star hotel in the Old Town

palace

One of Munich's most luxurious hotels mingles German comfort with oriental style. In 2015, its embrace of exoticism moved into the kitchen, now run by star Peruvian-Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa.

An elegant 19th-century building, just a few minutes from the Marienplatz, the Mandarin Oriental Munich, the city's luxury benchmark, is a popular hotel for all types of royalty.

Behind its majestic white facade, an imposing staircase leads you to great views of the city and a gorgeous swimming pool. The 73 rooms and suites offer up a discreet sense of luxury, evident in the furniture, the ochre tones, and the hotel's rich collection of paintings. The restaurant, Matsuhisa, opened in November 2015 by Peruvian-Japanese star chef Nobu Matsuhisa, is similar to his Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills.

In summer, enjoy a cocktail on the roof at the China Moon, where, on a clear day, you can see the Alps in the distance. In winter, enjoy the cosy Bavarian-chalet comfort of the Mandarin, with mulled wine and traditional music.
