Linda Mar Beach: right in the waves

getaway

It's impossible to come to San Francisco without diving into the waves or at least admiring them from the shore! Surf culture was born in California, a rendezvous for all surfers.

You can surf in San Mateo, south of San Francisco, where waves can reach up to 24 metres high in winter and where international surfers meet for Big Wave Surfing, the most important competition in the world.

Further north, immediately after Sausalito and 30 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge, you arrive at Linda Mar Beach, a sublime beach that has the advantage of being protected from fog, even in the summer. Everything is provided for your comfort. Parking, showers, equipment hire, and the essential wetsuit, because the sea is cold.

Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you will face the waves with as much pleasure as you will have chills. You can also take your first lesson or just enjoy the beach, with its small bars and good restaurants. Before you go, ask about the marine weather forecast. Know that the best winds are from the south-east, there are more tidal waves than swell, and that the best rollers are those coming from the north-west.
