Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse

Considered ‘the belly of Lyon' the covered market symbolises‘ the two secrets of success: quality and creativity' according to Paul Bocuse, after whom they are now named.

Going back in history to the 19th century, the market was originally located on the Place des Cordeliers for more than 100 years, but the demands of a modern society pushed the mayor, Louis Pradel, to update and move it to a district that was undergoing renovation, La Part Dieu. Inaugurated in 1971, they were renovated in 2006 and now open up to the city with a huge glass wall that gives on to the Cours Lafayette.

Les Halles hosts more than 50 oyster shuckers, cheese makers, bakers, pastry chefs, market gardeners, and sausage makers, as well as butchers, fishmongers, caterers, wine merchants, and restaurateurs all worthy representatives of Lyon's gastronomic know-how.

Some of chef Bocuse's suppliers and their wares are still present, including the famous cheeses of the Mere Richard and Maréchal, the fishmonger Pupier, cold cuts from Colette Sibilia and Gast, along with famous Sève chocolates and Bahadourian dried fruits.
