La Oliva: Spanish dishes to please

Taste the best products the Iberian peninsula has to offer, from cheeses to pata negra hams.

If, after having tasted Dutch fare, you are hankering for some exoticism, you will enjoy this restaurant, which offers excellent Spanish cuisine. With hams suspended from the rafters and an impressive array of cheeses, La Oliva is one of Amsterdam's most pleasing restaurants.

It is located in the heart of the trendy Jordaan neighbourhood. Candlelit tables create a warm atmosphere. Share a plate of ‘pintxos,' tapas from the Basque region, as is traditionally done. They are chef Alfredo Castillo Hoz's specialty and have ensured him a loyal following.

Taste the Asturias cheese, mingled with figs; rediscover some of the classics, like pata negra ham. If you wish, you may also choose from one of the numerous salads served in generous portions. Choose among the 35 Spanish wines on offer, served by the glass or bottle.
