Jogyesa Buddhist Temple: an urban oasis of spirituality

Escape the urban bustle for a few moments in an idyllic space of wellness and tranquillity.

Meditate in a peaceful setting under Napoleon pines more than five centuries old and marvel at frescoes and huge statutes of Buddha.

This is what awaits you at the historic temple of Jogyesa, built in 1910 in the heart of Seoul and surrounded by an amazing garden of many colours. This mecca of National Buddhism, open to everyone, will enable you to feel, deep within yourself, moments of true tranquillity. The sanctuary captures the essence of Korean Buddhism, established 1,700 years ago, and its Temple Stay and Temple Life programmes give visitors the chance to discover nothing less than the secret of inner peace and happiness. Take part in a tea ceremony or Chamseon meditation sessions, try a Buddhist meal or chat with a monk. During the Lotus Lantern Festival in May, at the approach of Buddhas birthday, bright lanterns are placed in the temple and a multitude of parades light up the streets.
