Iguatemi: Saturday afternoon fever

shopping

Shopping and fashion are the two passions Brazilians give themselves over to in this grand store, which is São Paulo's most chic.

Brazilians love shopping. They go to malls several times a week and can often spend the whole day there. It is a Paulista rite and, at the Morumbi Shopping Mall, you have more than 600 shops and dozens of restaurants to choose from. The Aricanduva Shopping Mall is even larger, while the Frei Caneca Shopping Mall targets an LGBT public.

The Iguatemi Shopping Mall itself is a genuine department store and showcase for Brazilian fashion, of which São Paulo is the capital. Some brands are very well known around the world, such as Alexandre Herchcovitch and Barbara Casasola, and others like Forum, Reinaldo Lourenço, and Animal soon will be. Each brand has its style in which you can find a hint of Brazilian flamboyance and the rigour reminiscent of modernist architecture.

Do not forget to have a look at the swimwear, which is called ‘ready to swim' here. Get rid of the cliché of the Brazilian swimsuit. Their line and their cut are much more ‘couture' than you probably imagine, one example being the sculptural suits signed by Lenny Niemeyer, the daughter of architect Oscar Niemeyer.
