Hotel Côté Cour Beijing: in the heart of the hutongs

charm

Happiness is staying in a traditional Beijing house from the imperial period.

Experiencing Chinese hutongs is worth it. A former schoolhouse, the Hotel Côté Cour is a peaceful oasis amidst the narrow streets, lined with small shops and street vendors, in old Beijing. This 600-square-metre courtyard has been elegantly furnished by its owner, Mrs. Cao Kun, who enthusiastically scours the antique stores and flea markets of the city. As tradition dictates, the rooms are connected to the courtyard and decorated with engravings and photographs. The woodwork in the elegant bathrooms is entirely painted with motifs and traditional Chinese landscapes. Extremely central, this hotel is intimate—only 14 rooms. Upstairs, a glass-roofed restaurant-bar overlooks the terrace. You will enjoy the mild summer and fantastic views in a place full of history and symbolism.
