The Museum of Modern Art and Contemporary Art's third floor will be dedicated to Armand Pierre Fernandez, or Arman, on the tenth anniversary of his passing. After the former “Passage à l'acte” (2001) and “Subida al cielo” (2006) exhibitions, the MAMAC gives a new insight into the artist's work, with twenty pieces joining, through permanent collections lent by the city of Nice and the Ferrero donation to the city in 2013.
Symbolic figure of the New Realism, Arman always remained attached to his roots, where he soon met Yves Klein (1947). It is at the Roseland abbey, for the New Realism festival of 1961, that he broke furniture, giving birth to the “Colère” pieces. And let us not forget that Arman was one of the first artists to use manufactured items as subjects for his art.
