Gram Pera, Turkish flavours just like at home

hot tip

A few tables around a buffet and a cosy atmosphere. A coffee shop very much like a table hôte.

A little ways off popular Istiklal Avenue, bustling at all hours of day and night with locals and tourists, Gram Pera is a small haven of peace. Time seems suspended between the stone walls of these cosy rooms, which have only a handful of tables. In the morning you can enjoy a coffee while flipping through some magazines and having something sweet at the bar. At lunch, a buffet is served in the open kitchen. It is an ode to the seasons, mezze and flavours of the Aegean. Didem Şenol is the chef, an important figure of Turkish cuisine and author of several cookbooks. He is also known for his delicious restaurant Lokanta Maya in the district of Karaköy. Gram is a more affordable version but is not alone: since opening in 2012, it has been joined by three others in town.
