Fotografiska: the Scandinavian reference point for contemporary photography

art & culture

Its view of the Baltic, and of the ferries that liaise with the Baltic countries, is not just an image… This museum is dedicated to the most beautiful images in contemporary photography.

The Swedes are cultural agitators. There is no way they would allow themselves to be left out of any artistic movements going on in the world.

Opened in 2010, Fotografiska is now a Scandinavian institution in terms of images. Black-and-white landscapes, conceptual works, fashion shots… Four or five major exhibitions are presented each year an Annie Leibovitz retrospective, a tribute to Sebastião Salgado, a close-up look at Martin Schoeller as well as about 20 thematic or monographic exhibitions. With high-quality large prints and handsome framing, the Fotografiska is well regarded by artists as well as amateurs.

As it remains open till 11:00 p.m., Stockholmers dine early and come after to enjoy the sunset and the view of the Baltic and the island of Skeppsholmen.
