Don Giovanni at the Estates Theatre

art & culture

The Estates Theatre (whose name refers to the Estates of the Bohemian crown) is the only theatre still standing in which Mozart played. Baroque magnificence since 1783.

At the end of the 18th century, Prague opened its arms to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose The Marriage of Figaro had been poorly received by the Viennese public.

To thank the city for its hospitality, Mozart dedicated his Symphony No. 38 in D Major to it and composed one of his most famous works, the opera Don Giovanni, here. The premier was held at the Estates Theatre on 29 October 1787. Take advantage of your stay to discover this fabulous Baroque building and a rich programme of ballets and operas.

At intermission, enjoy a glass of Bohemia Sekt sparkling wine. But beware of the magical charm of the setting: around the corner may be the famously intimidating statue known as the Commander!
