Co-produced by a European network of urban history museums, Divinely Football! is a unique exhibition dedicated to the contemporary sociology of football. After the cities of Bale and Bremen, the roadshow stops in Lyon for the EURO 2016. It will later travel to Luxembourg, Barcelona and Moscow. Each participating Museum also links its own town to this collective passion, filled with idols, rites and values.
The exhibition is based on a dozen playful units. Videos, photographs and symbolic objects based on a given theme evoke the connection between this universe and religion. For instance, you may learn that in Dortmund, young women supporters of the Ballspielverein Borussia 1909 (better known as “Borussia Dortmund”) could give birth in yellow and black-painted rooms, bearing the emblems of the club. Or that reserved spaces are being filled with flowers matching the club colours in the cemeteries of Gelsenkirchen-Schalke, Hamburg or Amsterdam!
