Ditta Artigianale: the best coffee and more

The talented barista Francesco Sanapo, three-time winner of the best coffee in Italy prize, has opened a second spot, signed by the great urbanist Giovanni Michelucci.

It is difficult to impress Italians with coffee—they have it in their genes. But this barista has met the challenge brilliantly. Now he's opened a second address in the magnificent building of the pope of modernism, architect Giovanni Michelucci, author of the Florence train station and the ‘Church of the Freeway of the Sun'. He's created a place of simple beauty that is well suited to the rare coffees of Francesco Sanapo.

A native of Salento and Florentine by adoption, Francesco perfected the art of espresso behind the counter of the family bistro in Lecce. Today, the maestro offers rare vintages like Esmeralda Gesha, a Panamanian coffee grown at an altitude of 2,000 metres, or nectar from Guatemala, produced in small quantities. The coffee is roasted on site, in specially crafted machines. Dishes offered include an excellent tartare, carpaccio, and other ‘brasserie' classics at unbeatable prices. The market-based à la carte menu includes delicious gourmet mini-portions.
