Comporta and its beautiful beaches

gateway

Only an hour from Lisbon, Comporta is the new refuge of the bohemian jet set.

A turquoise sea, powerful surf, white sand, ochre cliffs, rice fields behind the dunes, white and blue houses with thatched roofs… and nobody in sight. Welcome to the Alentejo coast, between Comporta and Melides. Strict town planning laws have helped keep the 70 kilometre coastline and its villages intact.

Once a secret paradise, the Comporta region has become, over the years, the hideout of discrete but influential personalities like Christian Louboutin and the designers Jacques Grange and Philippe Starck.

The Museu do Arroz restaurant offers local specialities year-round on its terrace overlooking the most beautiful rice fields of the region. Also note that galloping on the beach at sunset is a dream made possible by José Ribeira, who will show you the area's glorious vistas on horseback.
