Once an aristocratic Marseillaise home and still an exemplar of the 17th century aristocracy, Chateau Borely was built in 1768 for a family of wealthy merchants by the Marseilles architect Esprit Brun. An archaeological museum was housed here until 1989, when it moved to the Vieille Charité hospital. In 2003 it became the Museum of Decorative Arts and Fashion. Today, the listed building, which is emblematic of 18th century aristocratic style, showcases the decorative art and fashion collections of the museums of Marseilles.
The museum has a bookstore, Borelivres, which offers a selection of books relating to the museum's permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.
