Brest: along the docks

exploration

Old sailors, authentic bars, good seafood, and a choreographed ballet of boats: a visit to the docks of Brest is essential.

It's difficult to forget that Brest is a working port city, especially along the lively banks of its commercial port, which give the city its unique character. Stroll past the shipyards and the legendary schooner La Recouvrance on the Quai du Commandant Malbert. The Quai de la Douane is home to the city's criée (fish auction) and many of its best restaurants, such as the famous Crabe Marteau.

Bars and restaurants also line the Quai Tabarly, facing the Chateau Marina. Brest's oldest building, the chateau overlooks the city and is now a maritime museum. Don't forget to take in the magnificent views from the Pont Albert Louppe, the spectacular pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Iroise.
