Brasilia Festival of Brazilian Cinema

Published on 07-04-2016 Agenda

In September, Brasilia lives for cinema and rolls out the red carpet for a thrilling national competition.

Since 1985, the Brazilian capital highlights the national film industry. The oldest of its kind in Brazil, the Brasilia Festival of Brazilian Cinema saw the birth of many talented actors and directors over each edition. For the 49th one in 2016, the whole film industry will rub shoulders with film lovers at the Cine Brasilia, home of the festival since its beginnings. Designed by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, the concrete-style building is particularly adapted to the original and sophisticated short and feature-length productions that gave the event its reputation.

Many awards consecrate the most talented artists in competition, the Candango Trophy being for Best Film. Last year, Brasilia Festival of Brazilian Cinema thus honoured Claudio Assis' Big Jato.
