Barrio Italia: the antiques district

All around the Avenida Italia, between Providencia and Nunoa, the Barrio Italia, has been booming since the early 20th century, without forgetting its colonial past and historical wonders.

This feverish quarter is a paradise for antiques and design enthusiasts. With its trendy bars and fashionable restaurants, the place has no shortage of character. The fiefdom for decorators and antique dealers has also opened up to fashion designers and artists, in a unifying and creative dynamic.

Barrio Italia awakens from around 12:30 p.m.and its party atmosphere evokes both the eclectic concept of the Parisian Flea Market of Saint-Ouen and the bobo-chic Ibiza markets. Here and there, art galleries, unusual shops, clothes and jewellery retailers feature the avant-garde productions of Chilean artists.

At the heart of the trend, stands with furniture and vintage objects continue to multiply. Take a stroll under the arcades of the Estación Italia, where there are rare vinyl recordings, ceramic eggs and late 18th-century chandeliers.
