Auberge de la Vieille Tour: a sure thing

On the south coast of Grande-Terre, between sea and countryside, this luxury hotel, built around an 18th-century windmill, emits a fragrance of charm and discretion.

A landmark, the Auberge de la Vielle Tour is one of the most famous hotels in Guadeloupe. Its location near Pointe-à-Pitre, at the entry of Le Gosier, is ideal for visits to the surrounding islands.

Built against the old mill, the Creole-style building lies in a tropical three-hectare garden, surrounded by bougainvillea and vividly coloured ixora. Yellow, orange, and red, the hues are in harmony with the fabrics of the 103 rooms decorated in colonial style.

The sea view is exceptional, and the small, white sand beach below, with sun beds lined up in a row, is more than inviting. In the distance, there is a coral reef displaying inimitable shades of blue. The desire to go swimming in the turquoise sea, with its colourful fish, or in the large pool by the adjoining restaurant is irresistible. Here, the service is outstanding and the cuisine refined, with classic and exotic touches. What a treat!
