Here lie the remains of thousands of soldiers killed in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Though melancholic, a visit here is a very pleasant experience. With its rows of headstones, lawns, beautiful trees, and quiet, winding walkways, the huge estate of Robert E. Lee, confiscated in 1861 after his departure with the Confederates, has an undeniable charm.
Look for the grave and eternal flame of President John F. Kennedy. He is surrounded by his brothers, Robert Kennedy and Senator Edward Kennedy. Visit, too, the grave of the unknown soldiers, under military guard 24/7.
