Antica Birreria Peroni: a brew pub, Italian-style

brewery

An exotic setting, a friendly atmosphere, and great beer in Rome's best brew pub.

An amazing place, despite its central location (close to Piazza Venezia). Once you push through its heavy brown wood doors, you'll wonder for a moment if you are not… in Munich! Because this Roman institution, which dates back more than 100 years, follows the standard codes of a Bavarian brewery: loud, back-slapping friendliness; dark wood panelling and brass fittings; beer aplenty; and goulash and sausages.

The more adventurous order the house speciality, the famous ‘km' sausage, whose evocative garnish is echoed in the ribald and bawdy remarks of the servers who present it. On closer look, you are definitely in Italy, as demonstrated by the putti on the sepia frescoes and the typical Roman dishes listed on the menu. Whether your choice is Roman tripe, pork with balsamic vinegar, or Wurstel sausage, it is all deliciously authentic.
