Algonquin Provincial Park: a tour that is worth the journey

A 5-hour drive west of Montreal, Algonquin Provincial Park is a must-see destination for the beauty and richness of Canada's flora and fauna.

The activities offered by Algonquin Provincial Park include hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and horseback riding, cross country skiing, and fishing. The park spans an area of more than 7,600 square kilometres between Georgian Bay on Lake Huron and the Ottawa River.

Among the points of interest that should not be missed, are the Opeongo, Canoe, and Smoke lakes, which are among the most popular of the 2,400 lakes and 1,200 kms of waterways in the park. The bright and bubbling waters of the Petawawa River will appeal to those who are fond of rafting and its accompanying thrills. The isolated shores of Lake Nipissing, meanwhile, are perfect if you like fishing.

There is also, within the park, a visitor centre, a grocery store, a snack bar, a gas station, and mini-rental shops for equipment.
