A hot-air balloon: a safari in the sky

A spectacular view from the air, from a starting point north of Johannesburg.

Why not explore the vast wilderness from lofty heights? One of the most eccentric characters of the region, Bill Harrop, flies daily at dawn from his site near Hartbeespoort Dam.

A huge colourful balloon rises gently into the sky at the same time as the sun does. Just climb into the wicker basket and a few minutes later, you will see Johannesburg in the distance and just below you, animals in the wild. Depending on the intensity of the wind and weather conditions, the balloon will float for about an hour, making this an original way to explore the city and the nearby wildlife. To complete the romance of this balloon trip, a breakfast with Champagne is served after landing.

Make sure you do not arrive late at the place of appointment, as the balloon will have taken off without you!
