General Conditions of Sale
for Seat Options

The present Conditions are an integral part of the General Conditions of Sale as defined in the "Legal notices" section. Any Customer who reserves a Standard Seat Selection is deemed to have read and accepted the present General Conditions of Sale. Reserving a Standard Seat requires payment of a fee and is subject to availability.

General Conditions of Sale for Seat Options on Air France flights

1. Definitions

The terms and expressions used in the present General Conditions of Sale are defined as follows:

"Air France": Société Air France, a limited liability company incorporated under French law, with a registered office at 45 rue de Paris, F-95747 Roissy CDG Cedex, France, and registered with the Registry of Commerce and Companies of Bobigny under number 420 495 178.

"Customer": an individual person of the age of majority with a reservation in the Economy cabin on a Long-Haul Flight or in the Economy cabin on a Short- or Medium-Haul Flight, holding an e-ticket and wishing to reserve a Seat Option. Air France advises all persons with reduced mobility who have special travel needs, notably those requiring more leg room, to contact SAPHIR services (via the "Contact us" section of our website) prior to reserving a Seat Option.

"Economy cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased an economy fare ticket.

"Premium Economy cabin": area aboard the aircraft located between the Business and Economy cabins for customers who have purchased a Premium Economy fare ticket.

"Business Cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased a Business fare ticket.

"General Conditions of Sale" or "Conditions" or "Present": the present Conditions defining the General Conditions of Sale for a Seat Option.

"Seat Option" or "Seat Options": opportunity offered to Customers to reserve a Seat Option under the present Conditions, subject to availability.

"Price": the price of a Seat reservation depends on the Seat Option selected by the Customer.
  • Seat Plus: fifty* (50) or seventy* (70) euros (€) taxes included on a Long-Haul Flight, ten* (10), fifteen* (15) or twenty* (20) euros (€) taxes included on a Medium-Haul Flight, and ten* (10) euros taxes included on a Short-Haul Flight.
  • Duo Seat in a row of 2: thirty* (30) euros (€) taxes included
  • Duo Seat on the A380 upper deck: forty* (40) euros (€) taxes included
  • Seat at the front of the cabin: thirty* (30) euros (€) taxes included

* Or the equivalent amount in local currency on the websites listed below. The price is rounded to the nearest whole unit and varies according to exchange rates, which are revised twice per year.

Customers holding a Flying Blue card can use their Miles to make the purchase after booking their ticket in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” section of our website.

"Seat at the front of the cabin": seat located in the first 2-4 rows of the Economy Cabin. The location and number of these seats depend on the aircraft type.

"Duo Seat in a row of 2": seat in the Economy Cabin on a Long-Haul Flight, located in rows containing only 2 seats. Duo Seats in a row of 2 may also be reserved individually. Duo Seats are primarily located:
  • at the rear of the Boeing 777 and 747 aircraft, in some cases near offices or restrooms,
  • at the front of the Airbus 330 and 340 aircraft.

"Duo Seat on the A380 upper deck": seat in the Economy Cabin, located on the upper deck of the A380 aircraft in lateral rows. Duo Seats on the upper deck of the A380 may also be reserved individually.

"Seat Plus": seat in the Economy cabin that offers more leg room than the standard model for this cabin and that can be reserved by the Customer as defined by the present Conditions.
The Seat can be located:
  • near emergency exit doors (except on A340 aircraft),
  • in the widest rows on the upper deck of the Boeing 747 aircraft,
  • in some rows other than those located next to the emergency exit doors.

"Websites"
: the following country websites, accessible via www.airfrance.com: Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, French Guiana, French Polynesia, Germany, Greece, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Hong Kong, Hungary, Mauritius, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Ivory Coast, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Martinique, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, Vietnam.

"Long-Haul Flights": a Long-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option.

"Short- or Medium-Haul Flights": a Short- or Medium-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option.

2. Reservation Conditions for a Seat Option

2.1.1 A Customer may purchase a Seat Option, subject to availability, for certain Air France Long-Haul Flights:
  • when purchasing a ticket online,
  • after purchasing a ticket, in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” section of our site,
  • during the online check-in process (when a boarding pass is issued),
  • at interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports.

A Customer traveling on a Flying Blue Award ticket or a group ticket can reserve a Seat Option in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” section after purchasing the ticket or during the online check-in process.

2.1.2 A Customer may reserve a Seat Plus on certain Air France Short- and Medium-Haul Flights:
  • during the online check-in process (when a boarding pass is issued),
  • at certain interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports.

A Customer traveling on a Flying Blue Award ticket or a group ticket can reserve a Seat Option in the "Check-in” or “Your reservations” section after purchasing the ticket or during the online check-in process.

2.2 Seat Options are subject to an additional fee and are offered exclusively to customers traveling in the Economy cabin on Long-Haul Flights. On Short- and Medium-Haul Flights, Seat Plus is the only Seat Option offered.

2.3 Children traveling alone and benefiting from the Kids Solo service cannot purchase a Seat Option.

2.4 Seat Options are offered on certain Air France Long-Haul Flights and Short- or Medium-Haul Flights through the websites listed above, at certain airports with interactive kiosks and at check-in counters at some airports.

2.5 Customers can pay for the Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB.

Customers holding a Flying Blue card can use their Miles to pay for the Seat Option in the ”Check-in” or “Your reservations” section of our site after purchasing a ticket.

BlueBiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option.

2.6 Air France will make every effort to respect any Seat Option assignment reserved according to the present Conditions. The Customer is informed by the present Conditions that Air France may be required to modify Seat Option assignments for operational reasons related to security and/or safety measures or operational irregularities, even after boarding and seat assignment.
Air France cannot be held responsible in this case. Customers not benefiting from a Seat Option reserved under the present Conditions will be reimbursed the Price of the Seat Option according to the terms listed in Article 4 below.

2.7 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer is non-transferrable.

2.8 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may be transferred to another flight. To do so, the Customer must contact the point of sale, no later than 30 hours prior to their new departure time.

2.9 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may be exchanged for the purchase of a more expensive Seat Option, subject to availability. This may be done during the online check-in process, at an interactive kiosk at the airport or at an Air France point of sale. In this case, the Customer must pay the price difference between the 2 Seat Options.

Exchanging a Seat Option for a less expensive Seat Option is permitted through an Air France ticket office or call center. In this case, the Customer will receive a voucher in the amount of the price difference.

3. Conditions of Use for Seat Options

3.1 By reserving a Seat Option, the Customer agrees to meet the following cumulative conditions:
(i) The Customer must possess the capacity to enter into contractual relations.
(ii) If the Customer chooses a Seat Option located near an emergency exit, he or she must be able to assist in the event of an evacuation and must therefore fulfil the attribution criteria defined by air regulations: for safety and security reasons, occupancy of these Seats is limited to passengers able to understand safety instructions and meet the physical requirements.

This provision, undertaken in an effort to facilitate rapid access to emergency exits, notably excludes assignment of these seats to the following persons:
  • Passengers with reduced mobility (traveling with or without a service animal)
  • Pregnant women
  • Passengers whose body mass (waist larger than 135 cm / 53 in) would restrict access to an emergency exit
  • All infants and children up to and including 11 years of age
  • Children of any age traveling alone and benefiting from the Kids Solo service
  • Passengers traveling with a pet in the cabin
  • Passengers unable to fully understand or communicate in either French or English

Seat Options may be located near offices or restrooms.

3.2 When reserving a Seat Option, the Customer agrees to provide Air France with exact information and refrains from reserving if he or she does not meet the present Conditions. Failure to do so will result in the Company assigning a different seat to the Customer.

3.3 A Customer reserving a Seat Option can only do so in his or her own name or for a person who has duly assigned the Customer the authority to reserve a Seat Option in his or her name and account, hereafter named "Mandate Passenger". In this situation, the Mandate Passenger is deemed to be familiar with and have accepted the present Conditions, and the Customer guarantees the respect of the Mandate Passenger for all the present Conditions.

4. Refund Conditions

4.1 A Customer having reserved a Seat Option may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Seat Option in the following situations:
  • The flight for which he or she reserved the Seat Option is canceled and the Seat Option could not be provided on the replacement flight
  • The Seat Option was not assigned to the Customer by Air France due to operational reasons related to operational irregularities or security and/or safety requirements.

4.2 A Customer may request a refund for the Price of a Seat Option by filling out an online claim form, accessible via the "Contact us" section on our website.

4.3 A Customer having reserved a Seat Option will not be able to obtain a refund for the Price of the Seat Option notably in the event that the Customer has not respected or fulfilled the present Conditions or if the Customer is upgraded to the Premium Economy, Business or La Première cabin after purchasing a ticket for the Economy cabin.

5. Miscellaneous

Customers holding a Flying Blue card can receive the following services by entering their card number when purchasing their ticket.
  • Customers holding an AIR FRANCE and KLM Flying Blue Platinum or Club 2000* card can reserve one Seat Option at no extra charge.
  • Customers holding an AIR FRANCE and KLM Flying Blue Gold card can reserve one Seat Option and receive a 50% discount on the rate listed in the present Conditions.
  • Customers holding an AIR FRANCE and KLM Flying Blue Silver card can reserve one Seat Option and receive a 25% discount on the rate listed in the present Conditions.

If the Customer fails to indicate that he or she holds a Flying Blue or Club 2000 card at the time of purchase, he or she may reserve a Seat Option at the Price defined in the present Conditions.

Conditions for reserving a Seat Option on KLM flights

1. SEAT OPTIONS

1.1 Economy Comfort seats, seats offering additional leg room, and preferred seats in the Economy cabin are available in the Economy Comfort zone in the Economy cabin on intercontinental KLM flights and European KLM flights operated by a Boeing 737. Economy Comfort seats are subject to availability and involve an additional fee.

2. RESERVATION CONDITIONS FOR SEAT OPTIONS

2.1. A Customer may reserve a Seat Option for certain KLM flights:
  • when purchasing a ticket online,
  • after purchasing a ticket, in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” section of our site,
  • during the online check-in process (when a boarding pass is issued),
  • at interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports.

A Customer traveling on a Flying Blue Award ticket or a group ticket can reserve a Seat Option in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” section after purchasing the ticket or during the online check-in process.

2.2 Customers can pay for the Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB.

2.3 BlueBiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option.

2.4 Flying Blue Platinum members may book an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room, or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at no extra charge. Flying Blue Gold and Silver members can book an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at a discount rate. To use these advantages, customers must log in as Flying Blue members when booking. In all other cases, Flying Blue members may book an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at the regular fare.

2.5 We will make every reasonable effort to fulfill your request for an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin. However, we reserve the right to assign or reassign an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at any time, even after boarding of the aircraft, for operational, safety or security reasons. The final decision will be made by the ground staff and the operating crew on the day of the flight.

2.6 To purchase an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin, you certify that you possess the legal authority to enter into this agreement, and subsequently to be bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement.

2.7 In addition, you certify that all information supplied by you in a request for a particular seat is accurate and that your reservation is not speculative, false or fraudulent. You also certify that your reservation is for yourself, or for another person on whose behalf you are entitled to act. This person must also comply with the requirements set out in paragraph 2.1.

3. Refund

3.1 In the event that you are not assigned an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room, or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin after purchase, you are entitled to a refund corresponding to the amount paid for the specific portion of your trip in which a Seat Option was not provided.

Conditions for obtaining a refund for a Seat Option:
— you were rebooked on another flight:
  • at your request and you purchased a Seat Option on your new flight,
  • by KLM, for operational reasons or because your flight was canceled,
  • because you missed your connecting flight after an inbound flight on KLM and you were not provided with an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room, or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin on the alternative flight;

— we changed the aircraft type and there were no Economy Comfort seats, seats offering additional leg room, or preferred seats in the Economy cabin available on the alternative aircraft;

— for operational, safety or security reasons, we made use of our right to assign or reassign your Economy Comfort seat, seat offering additional leg room, or preferred seat in the Economy cabin either before or after boarding.

3.2 You can request a refund of the Price paid for your Seat Option by submitting an online refund request form available in the “Contact us” section of our site.

3.3 No refund will be made if you do not meet the criteria listed above.

4. Miscellaneous

4.1 ECONOMY COMFORT SEATS
This service offers you an Economy Comfort seat in the Economy cabin when this option is available. While Economy Comfort seats provide extra leg room and more seat recline, the services offered in the Economy Comfort zone are the same as those provided in the standard Economy cabin. For example, this zone receives the standard Economy cabin meal service.

4.2 SEATS OFFERING ADDITIONAL LEG ROOM
This service offers you a seat with additional leg room in the Economy cabin when this option is available. No other features distinguish this product from the other products in the Economy cabin. For example, this zone receives the standard Economy cabin meal service. Please note that other passengers may be seated in front of the seats offering additional leg room during your flight.

4.3 ECONOMY CABIN PREFERRED SEATS
This service offers you preferred seats in the Economy cabin when this option is available. Preferred seats include both aisle and window seats situated just behind the Economy Comfort zone, as well as in a row of 2 seats. Please note that some of these seats do not fully recline. No other features distinguish this product from the other products in the Economy cabin. For example, this zone receives the standard Economy cabin meal service.

General Conditions of Sale for Standard Seat Selection on Long-Haul Air France flights in the Economy Cabin

Preamble

Any Customer can select a Standard Seat at no extra charge on Long-Haul Air France flights from among the seats still available at the time of selection:

Starting 30 hours before the flight's departure, during online check-in (when a boarding pass is issued) and at the airport, using certain interactive kiosks or at the check-in counters in some airports.

However, if you would like to benefit from a wider selection, or if you want to select a specific seat, we offer you the possibility of booking the seat you want now. This service requires payment of a fee and is available on all Long-Haul Air France Flights. Reserving a Standard Seat is subject to the present general conditions.

Please note: this service is not available online for families traveling with a child under 2 years of age.

Customers holding a Flying Blue card can use their Miles to make the purchase after booking their ticket in the “Your reservations” section of our website.
BlueBiz members can make the purchase with their BlueCredits.

"Standard Seat": any seat in the Economy Cabin except for seats sold as Seat Options (Seat at the front of the cabin, DUO Seat on the A380 upper deck, DUO Seat in a row of 2 and Seat Plus).

"Long-Haul Flights": a Long-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Standard Seat.

2. Reservation conditions for Standard Seat Selection

2.1 A Customer may purchase a Standard Seat, subject to availability, for certain Air France Long-Haul Flights:
  • when purchasing a ticket online
  • after purchasing a ticket, in the "Your reservations" section of our website

Some of our Customers receive free Standard Seat Selection when purchasing a ticket or, after purchasing a ticket, in the "Your reservations" section of our website (see article 5).

2.2 Customers can pay for the Standard Seat Selection using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB.

Customers holding a Flying Blue card can use their Miles to make the purchase in the “Your reservations” section of our site after purchasing a ticket.
BlueBiz members can use their BlueCredits to book a Standard Seat.

2.3 Air France will make every effort to respect any Standard Seat assignment reserved according to the present Conditions. The Customer is informed by the present Conditions that Air France may be required to modify Standard Seat assignments for operational reasons related to security and/or safety measures or operational irregularities, even after boarding and seat assignment.
Air France cannot be held responsible in this case. Customers not benefiting from a Standard Seat reserved under the present Conditions will be reimbursed the Price of the Standard Seat Selection according to the terms listed in Article 4 below.

2.4 A Standard Seat booked by a Customer is non-transferrable.

2.6 A Standard Seat booked by a Customer may be exchanged for the purchase of another Standard Seat at the same price or a more expensive Seat Option, during the online check-in process, at an interactive kiosk at the airport or at an Air France point of sale. In this case, the Customer must pay the price difference between the 2 products.

3. Conditions of use for Standard Seats

3.1 A Customer booking a Standard Seat can only do so in his or her own name or for a person who has duly assigned the Customer the authority to book a Standard Seat in his or her name and account, hereafter named "Mandate Passenger." In this situation, the Mandate Passenger is deemed to be familiar with and have accepted the present Conditions, and the Customer guarantees the respect of the Mandate Passenger for all the present Conditions.

4. Refund conditions

4.1 A Customer having reserved a Standard Seat may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Standard Seat Selection in the following situations:

4.3 A Customer having booked a Standard Seat will not be able to obtain a refund for the Price of the Standard Seat Selection in the event that the Customer is upgraded to the Premium Economy, Business or La Première Cabin after purchasing a ticket for the Economy Cabin.

5. Miscellaneous

5.1 Customers holding an AIR FRANCE and KLM Flying Blue Platinum card, a Club 2000* card, an AIR FRANCE and KLM Flying Blue Gold card, or an AIR FRANCE and KLM Flying Blue Silver card can book a Standard Seat at no extra charge as long as they provide their card number when booking. This also applies for any travel companions included on the same reservation.

If the Customer fails to indicate that he or she holds a Flying Blue card at the time of purchase, he or she may book a Standard Seat at the Price defined in the Present.

5.2 Customers booking a ticket in a flexible reservation class (Y, B or M) receive Standard Seat Selection at no extra charge.

5.3 Customers with reduced mobility receive Standard Seat Selection at no extra charge. Customers with reduced mobility receive Standard Seat Selection at no extra charge if they indicate their situation to our sales service in advance.

5.4 Children traveling alone and benefiting from our Kids Solo service receive Standard Seat Selection at no extra charge.

5 .5 Families traveling with children (up to 11 years of age) are assigned Standard Seats at no extra charge at least 2 days before their flight’s departure. Air France will make every effort to ensure that families receive neighboring seats, as long as all family members are included on the same reservation. Seat assignment will be communicated when boarding passes are issued.
